Hi, a little by the way of an introduction. Having attended my first ever Rally at Coniston last year and my second one at a very rainy and windy Grasmere. I was bowled over by the positive vibes at both Rallies and the friendliness of all involved. (Special shout out for Elaine ). I decided to get more involved with the organising team after answering a general request for more people to become involved and support the Cumbria Centre. So I’m a real newbie to Rallying and have found the team really supportive and welcoming especially when I ask what must be obvious questions about the way things are organised..
I live over in Selby, with the team adopting a modern approach to meetings via video calls, which makes being involved and keeping up to speed straight forward and reduces any unnecessary travelling. In fact my first meeting I was out in France in the Caravan.
I’ve already learned that the team are busy, with people juggling full time jobs and families with the Centre activities throughout the year. Yet despite this they are keen everything is correctly in place before I pick up the Treasurer role and I don’t feel under pressure to rush.
There’s most definitely a need for more people to be involved to support the team, even in small ways which will help grease the wheels of the Centre. One example of this is managing the website, which in itself isn’t a massive pull on time, but when it’s added to someone else’s role who is not overly familiar with the systems it becomes more time consuming and challenging. This activity can of course be completed remotely. If you’d like to learn or develop some of your IT skills or perhaps are familiar with this type of thing, please approach one of the team if you feel you could help, it would be most appreciated.
