After a journey beset by roadworks and traffic jams we arrived at Cabus to a warm welcome by Janet and were shown to our pitch by Alan. All was soon set up and it was time for flag, which had a wonderful selection of homemade cakes, and time to chat to our fellow ralliers.
On Saturday evening we all got together in the function room on site where we had a race night and some quizzes as well as a lot of banter. Sunday afternoon saw us all back in the function room for a cream tea with scones, jam and cream, lots more yummy homemade cakes and lots more chatter.
This is a lovely site right beside the Lancaster canal with canal walks in both directions. About an hour south gets you to Garstang and rather longer north takes you to Lancaster with footpaths going off in various directions along the way. It is rather odd at first to sit on site and see the narrowboats sailing past higher than you are. Within a 15 minute walk there is a farm shop and children’s farm, a restaurant and a fish and chip shop (eat in or take away).
For trips by car there are loads of pretty villages, garden centres, the Trough of Bowland, Preston, the Lancashire coast and the delights of Blackpool. If you haven’t been here before give it a try, there’s something for everyone.
Many thanks to William and Janet and Alan and Gillian for all of their hard work over the rally and the ladies (and gentlemen?) who made all of the cakes.
Nancy.
